Trail Conditions

Date Conditions
3/6/2010 As of Saturday, March 6, 2010 there has been approximately 12” of new snow at the higher elevations and 8” of new snow at the lower elevation. The snow was heavy and there has been substantial wind that has created some drifting. Remember to contact the avalanche center before heading out.

Last night, Friday March 5, we groomed Clyde Creek and Mudd Creek.

The Snow cat had a Hydraulic leak last week and we were not able to groom CO-OP and Strawberry. That run has not been done since the new snow so anticipate rough trails.

Last night the Snow Cat encountered an electrical problem with the till bar. The tiller bar cannot be raised. This will prevent us from taking it out until it if fixed. I anticipate the Snow Cat will be down at least until Thursday.

The conditions are good right now but with the problems we have had with the groomer lately the trails will be rough.
2/20/2010 As of Saturday, 2/20/2010, the groomer is down with a radiator leak. It does not appear to be in a hose or hose connection so the repair will be more difficult. We are hoping the repairs can be made next week and will not involve transporting the Groomer to Salt Lake.

Prior to this we were current with all of our scheduled runs with the last run being

CO-OP Creek, Lake Creek summit and Strawberry River on Thursday. We have received several smaller storm over the last week with each one producing 1 to 3 inches of new snow at the trail heads and a little more at the higher elevations.

We will update the report when we know more on Monday, 2/22/2010.
2/5/2010 Hello Fellow Sled riders. As of Friday, February 5th, 2010 there has been 0 inches of new snow. It’s been blowing up there off and on for the last couple of days. There is a fairly good sized storm that's supposed to hit today...if the weatherman gets it right. The avalanche conditions are still considerable is some areas so make sure you have all the proper equipment with you like beacons, probes, shovels, emergency equipment and so forth. The main thing is that you don't take any chances. You can't get hit by an avalanche if you stay away from the area they occur.

Yesterday was Thursday and I was able to coax the snowcat into working temporarily. It is still in need of the SLC guys to come do some repairs, but I think we may be able to limp along to keep the trails in the best condition we can. Today they will attempt the long run, so we will see what happens.

1/29/2010 Hello Fellow Sled riders. As of Friday, January 29th, 2010 there has been a few inches of new snow. It’s been snowing up there off and on for the last week or so. There is a layer of powder, then a layer of heavy, moist snow, and on top is another layer of thick powder. This means make sure you stay out of avalanche danger. Make sure you have all the proper equipment with you like beacons, probes, shovels, emergency equipment and so forth.

On Friday, there were a bunch of those demo snocats running from the Strawberry River trailhead. They went all over the place leaving big tracks. As usual, they will freeze tonight and probably get covered by drifts. Be very careful when crossing them, and be cautious if you don't see them because they hurt if you cross them unexpectedly. I know.

I did see some really, really nice play areas just off the trail today. I would tell you where they are, but I'm afraid they won't remain that way for me on Sunday when I can ride. So...You'll understand if I keep the secret. Of coarse the boss is saying I have to tell you, so if you call me, I guess I will. : )

The first of it was that perfect snowball making type of snow. What’s falling now is Powder…Lots and lots of powder. This means make sure you stay out of avalanche danger. Make sure you have all the proper equipment with you like beacons, probes, shovels, emergency equipment and so forth. Once you have all the responsible stuff done, all that’s left to do it play, play, play. Make sure you leave some for me though…seriously, save me some. Oh, almost forgot. Even though the snow is good, be careful of the wind. It was blowing pretty hard most of today.

1/12/2010 Hello Fellow Sled riders.

As of Monday, January 11th, 2010 there has been little to no new snow at the Strawberry UDOT shed. Caution should be used at lower elevations due to the thin snow depths. With the cold, the trails are staying hard. If you're lucky enough to find a good unused play area, use caution. There are a lot of hidden rocks, (trust me, I know) and vegetation.

  • January 16th- The above scheduled Saturday run
  • January 17th- The above scheduled Sunday run
Schedule is subject to change based on accident/emergency needs, weather conditions and equipment repairs.

The only concerns we have is the lack of snow. In some areas we may have to suspend grooming until we get more snow because there is too much exposed road or vegetation.

Thank you, and be safe out there.
