Trail Conditions

Date Conditions
3/312010 With the recent warm temperatures the trails have started to soften up some, but are still holding on and we are hoping this current storm will improve conditions. The first few miles of trail from the gates are thin, but conditions to get better with elevation. We will continue to groom as long as the weather allows, it is likely that the North Slope Road will only be groomed as far as Elizabeth Pass, while both trails to Whitney Warming Hut and Mirror Lake will continue. Have a safe visit.
2/18/2010 Last weeks series of small storms added up to over a foot of snow in the higher terrain and has greatly improved the riding conditions. However, the east side of the range still lacks much snow beyond Elizabeth Ridge and the groomer is very limited on where they can groom on that side right now. In the Whitney Basin as of Monday, we have received 5-7" new snow and all trails have been groomed for the weekend. Please stay advised for changing weather and snow conditions, significant snow is forecasted for the weekend and the avalanche danger will likely rise. Have a safe visit.
2/15/2010 This trail update covers for the week of 1/4-10/10. Even with the low snow conditions we are still able to keep the trails groomed and the riding is not too bad. We have received some new snow in the last few days, but no major storms have hit the north slope. The trails to both Whitney and Mirror Lake as well as the North Slope have been groomed this week and additional grooming will be done as needed.
1/4/2010
  • 2/11/2010 - Highway 150 from the North Slope parking lot to Mirror Lake was groomed
  • 2/14/2010 - North Slope Road (FS Road #058) was groomed
  • 2/15/2010 - Whitney Reservoir was groomed
Received some snow this weekend - 6" at lower elevations. With the low snow totals, take care when riding off the groomed trails. Be safe out there.
12/14/09 Upwards of two feet of new snow have blanketed the north slope at the 10,000' elevation. Our groomers have been out over the North Slope Road on Monday and to Whitney and Mirror Lake on Wednesday. Riders should find deep snow and tough trail breaking as this new snow takes some time to settle-out. Please beware of the "Considerable" avalanche danger in the back-country, numerous natural and human triggered avalanches have been observed. For more updated conditions visit the Utah Avalanche Center at 888-999-4019 or utahavalanchecenter.org. Be safe.
12/7/09 This is a trail update for complex #3, the North slope to Whitney and Mirror Lake and east to DeadHorse Trailhead. We are waiting for more snow to begin grooming, currently we have just a few inches at the North Slope Trailhead with roughly 18-20" at the 10,000' elevation. A few people have been out riding, but it's limited to snowpacked roads and grassy meadows. It looks like a decent storm for the weekend? Be safe.
